The most wonderful time of the year!

By request from my dear friend Lauren....here's an update!

It's Christmas Eve! It really is my favorite time of the year. We've had a busy December. Like I mentioned in the last blog, we went to Winona the first weekend for our friend Ryan's birthday. Then 2 weekends ago, my best friend, Millie and her husband, Jeron had their first Christmas party. It was tons of fun with lots of food and good friends! I'm so blessed to have Millie in my life and that Bobby and I both get along with her friends. The girls played Catch Phrase and had drinks while the guys went downstairs and played poker. Earlier that day I went to Mall of America with Kara to do some Christmas shopping while Bobby helped his mom with her tree and they got to spend a little time together alone. They don't get that opportunity very much since we don't live that close. Then on Saturday of that weekend we had a party here for my dad's 60th birthday! Can you believe he's 60?!?! I can't! It was again lots of good food and good friends!

Last weekend we had quite the snow storm here. We decided that Saturday was going to be just staying in with blankets, movies, games and hot chocolate. It was a really fun day and SO relaxing!!

And now it's Christmas Eve! My family will be coming to our place again this year this afternoon. Then my parents, brother and both of us will be going to the 11 PM church service at Incarnation. The choir is singing at that service, so I had to be there anyway. But now that my family is going, the church couldn't find an interpreter....so guess who's interpreting the service?? Yep, ME! So it will be a very longgggg day!

Tomorrow I'm working just a few hours and then it's off to Lakeville for the night! Again, lots of good food and good friends at Pat's house!

Hopefully we'll have some new pictures soon for our page....and maybe I'll even figure out how to customize it and make it prettier! Merry Christmas to everyone!

The holidays have arrived!

Happy Holidays everyone!!

Our holiday season started off in a quite eventful way. This year we did dual Thanksgivings. We were supposed to be at Pat's at noon, then Kara had to go to the ER and we didn't know how long she would be there (everything is fine by the way, it was something minor). So we planned to postpone until a couple of days later. Well, she ended up being there for just a couple of hours, so Bobby and I headed to Lakeville and Pat walked us through what needed to be done by phone. We did a good chunk of the cook prep while Pat was out. Then they came back and we had a delicious dinner! Then it was off to my parents' house.

Thanksgiving also fell on my brother's birthday this year. So we had pie AND ice cream cake! More yummy food there, even though we were more stuffed than we could express! My grandma had emergency surgery the week before and was in the nursing home. She wasn't feeling the best so she didn't come to dinner but we all went to see her after dinner and spend some time with her.

Friday morning it was time for SHOPPING! Yes, my mom and I are nuts and we went to Rosedale. We got there about 6:30, so we weren't there first thing at 4 AM, no way! We got lots of great deals, I did some Christmas shopping and got a few things for myself! Friday night Bobby and I went to Faribault with my friend Karen to celebrate my friend Angie's birthday. Saturday we did more shopping then went to my brother's birthday party at his house.

We definitely had a busy weekend! But we got to spend time with the people we love the most. Now we're 2 weeks into December and I am LOVING it! This is my favorite time of year (hence why we got married 4 days after Christmas!) Our decorations are up and the cookies will be baked this weekend. We're going to our first holiday party on Friday and we're hosting one on Saturday. Well, it's really a 60th birthday party for my dad, but we're throwing in a little holiday cheer for good measure.

Happy Holidays to all and enjoy this fabulous time of year!!

One year has passed......

Today is a strange day for us. One year ago, Bobby's dad, John, passed away from brain cancer. We had a long time to prepare ourselves for it, but no time is really ever enough. We only had a short time to grieve because we had the wedding to get ready for. When we found out he had Stage 4, terminal brain cancer, we immediately went through our options for moving up the wedding so he could be there. However, he was adamant, he did not want us to move the wedding. We didn't know what would happen, or if he would make it, but we had to respect his wishes.

He was a loved man and had more friends than I can even remember. I'm sure I could make a list of all of the people I knew and I'd be missing over half of them. As a family, all of the Pflugh's really went through a lot last year and grew much closer. I was able to meet and get to know most of the family, and although it was under horrible circumstances I feel so blessed that I had that opportunity.

Bobby and I have a great relationship, but our strength as a couple and my strength as his rock was certainly tested during this trying time. It taught us a lot about each other and we really are so much stronger now. We know we can get through just about anything.

To remember this amazing man, Bobby and I met up with his mom and sister. We did a little shopping and then went to Kincaid's for dinner. It was one of his top restaurants and we always have a great meal when we're there. We toasted to his life and shared memories that we have of him. It was not a sad time for us. He lived a very full life and impacted SO many people. From very early on, he made me feel like part of the family. After he got sick he was always telling me that he was so happy that Bobby had someone like me in his life, and oddly enough that made me feel at peace when he died. He was such a great man and a respected man. We all miss him so, but know that he is in a better place after all he went through last year. We miss you John and still love you every day.

Happy, happy, happy!

Well.... the news finally came....

Sarah is NIC Certified!! For those of you who don't know what that means.... it's like passing the bar for a lawyer or boards for a nurse. I've been working as an interpreter since I graduated in 2007, but now I am certified which means I'll be accepted for more work and it also means I qualify as having the skills necessary to be a good interpreter. Technically my certification is NIC-Advanced, which is really good. There's NIC, NIC-Advanced and NIC-Master. So I won't have to take any certification for a longggggggg time. I'll eventually go for NIC-Master, but not for a while.

We went to Pittsburgh Blue Steakhouse in Maple Grove to celebrate and it was awesome! Then we went to Verizon and got me a Blackberry Curve! We've been looking at them for a while, and now we decided to go for it. Bobby will get his super-discount in a couple weeks so he has to wait on getting one for now. But now that I'll be doing more freelance and won't be at home near a computer all the time, a Blackberry is necessary.

So yay!

Life back to normal?

Well, we obviously had a rough week last week.....

I was able to be distracted for a while by going to Faribault, MN for the Homecoming at the MN State Academy for the Deaf (where my brother went). I went with Cassie and Tarra and we had a great time!! We met up with my parents and just got to hang out and see old friends. It was a little weird because I saw a few of my "clients" in the interpreting world that I normally don't see out and about, but it was still super fun!

Karen and I had a chance to have lunch Sunday, just the two of us. We did our "usual", Chili's for chips & salsa, chicken tacos and molten lava cake. It was nice to be able to talk about Krista and the whole surrealness of last week. I honestly feel blessed that I'm able to be there for her and just listen or distract her. That might sound weird, but I don't know what else to do. Krista was amazing and she will be terribly missed, but it hasn't effected me in the way it has for Karen, so I feel like by helping her get through the pain, it's my way of remembering Krista....sounds weird, but it's true.

The work week is almost over!! We're having Pat and Kara over for dinner tonight, so that will be fun! Of course we need to clean.....gross! But it'll be a nice afternoon of errands and spending time together before the family comes over.

Have a great weekend!

Sad reality

Well.... we went to Winona last week, unfortunately not under happy circumstances. One of my sorority sisters, Krista Meyer, was killed in a car accient on Oct. 5. She was the president both years I was in Phi Theta Chi. Then she lived with my good friend Karen for a year after we all graduated. We weren't extremely close, but I would definitely call her a friend. She was the most welcoming person with the biggest heart. The world is missing out on an amazing person. It was so sad to see all of my sisters who were totally heartbroken.

We just saw her 3 weeks ago at Homecoming and it was so great to see her and just hang out at tne VFW. It's still quite a shock and absolutely devastating.

Rest in peace Krista, so many people loved you and will miss you dearly.
